Good news about the newest dolphin! Sounds good about the new book prospects too. You sound like a go-getter, kind of like the guys I work with. They never stop! I work at a Defense Contractor with a lot of ex-military guys.
HI Sue: Our first birth was stillborn, and I spent 3 hrs a day later watching the mother try to lift the baby to the surface, finally did so 3 days later giving it up to her trainer. Very sad to watch. The second was born a beautiful female, I have monitored several times, now ten days old, brave enough to try to swim out front of mom and grandmother, who both nurse her. Got good news yesterday from museum staff, I will meet them soon to discuss book I have proposed on The Great Mammals: Origin, Intelligence, Conservation. They will help me, and I will also spend time at the National Zoo. John
Sue: Thanks, hope to see the newsletter soon. I added a CC plug to my home page, and I will add one to my MySpace blog and a Bulletin to my nearly 300 friends. I will also add several more Journal entries, every few days to build up a larger body of material. John
Hi John, How's it going? We're going to have a couple more site leaders on here soon. Dennis and Debbie. I hope to get them added some time this week so there will more people to help get this site going! I'm still emailing Stephen and Chris to get the weekly newsletter going again, I haven't seen it in a few weeks! Take care!
Hi John, If you have any suggestions for the site, like the text size in the Journal and editing, please let Chris Seta know! Thanks! Sue I've read your first chapter! There is a way to sign up as a "Fan" and I did that so that every time you post something in your journal, I will get an email! Talk to you soon!
Sue: I added my first chapter to my Journal. Perhaps it will somehow appear in the next newsletter. I noted that there are several faults in the ability to edit the copy after it is pasted in to the site. This should be repaired if possible. For example, I could not center or change size some text. No big deal, but could be reported to the control agency. I have had some similar problems in blog sites, not as bad, and some can be prevented by setting the correctness of the pasted material while it is still in Word or whatever.
Hi John, I heard back from Chris... here's what he said: Hey Sue, sorry sometimes it takes so long to get back to you. i'm just swamped under the load sometimes. Anyways, yes, John's chapters will show up in the weekly newsletters if he posts them to his journal. I have a full plate today already, but I'll circle back around early next week and try and address below issues
Hi John, Email me your home email, and I'll forward you the cancercancer weekly newsletter, and the crohn's one so you can look at them. I think that even if you post your blog (which they now call Journal on your page) it will be included in the weekly newsletter. I'm going to email Chris Seta about the newsletter since Stephen hasn't been on lately. I'm at home today. 7 cases of bottled water fell on me yesterday at the grocery store, and I'm really sore today!
Don't worry, just check in when you can! Stephen seems to be MIA. I'll try to find the newsletter in my home email tonight. I know the Crohn's site does one (run by the same folks). The story about the dolphin was so sad. They really are very intelligent creatures!
Hello Sue: I am trying to get better at navigating and using this site. I added an article, listing my lengthy cancer book bibliography. Waiting for Stephen to answer our questions, so I can start adding some book chapters. I have also started another book: The Great Mammals: Origin, Intelligence, Conservation. Tuesday, at the National Aquarium where I spend one day a week, one of our pregnant dolphins went into labor, but the calf was born dead. I spent three hours watching her trying to nose it up to the surface, which is their main instinct after birth to get them to breath. 1 of 3 die at birth or in the first year, for various reasons, and we maintain a 24 hour watch on the mothers and new babies to try to spot any problems. So, it was sad to watch her grieve as the reality gradually grew. We think of them as friends, with whom we communicate, and they return the favor, which has led me to write this book, a good break now and then from the cancer book. I have been called to teach sailing all weekend, so will continue to have little time. John
Hi John, Good questions both, but I had to forward them to Stephen. I don't know how to email the whole group either. He will have to get back to us on that, and where to post your blogs. Talk to you later! Sue
HI Sue: I received a welcome from Stephen. If you can work it out with him, I would be happy to see my blog at the top level so that everyone can see it and perhaps receive it via the newsletter. I have at the moment about 50 chapters abbreviated to about 60-70% of the book-length chapter. I can go back to the beginning and start posting those every week. I am up to 28 with my earlier crowd and sites. Let me know how that works out. I have to work for a couple of days and will be back to you Thursday. John
Hi, thanks for replying! There is a weekly newsletter that goes out to all the members, I think I just got one at home. I would love to see your MySpace page. My MySpace is listed under my contact info on my page I think! I think it's a fantastic idea to add your weekly blog to this site! You could either do it up at the top level, that way everyone would see it. And that way it would probably go out to everyone in the newsletter. I'm just a volunteer, like you. I will ask Stephen if he knows how your weekly blog can be automatically incorporated in the newsletter, and to add you as a Site Leader. That just means you greet the new people and try to have conversations with everyone to keep this site going! Thanks a million! Sue
Hello Sue: Thanks for your contacts, I have been sailing for several days, and I have to work Tue-Wed, but I will work on a better reply today. I would be happy to work with you to develop the site, share a community or add some extra site content from my book, etc. I can't see a way to send you a message other than this. Let me know if there is a better or private one. And, perhaps you could spell out some thoughts on how I might best contribute. I put a weekly blog, a partial book chapter, on MySpace and elsewhere. I have been planning to add it to the CC blog. We could also send a specially-designed CancerCancer Weekly Newsletter, also based on the book chapters, to all members, but would need email addresses. Don't hesitate to suggest ideas, I am busy, but this is a good site that deserves to expand, and I know it is not easy. So, let's try working together and see what I can do to help. John
Hi John! Glad to hear you are in remission~! I checked out your www.canfighter.com - there was some great stuff on there. I need to go back and read more when I get a chance. Hope you are feeling good! Thanks for creating the Prostate cancer community :)
