Clinical Trial for Patients with Advanced Lung Cancer

Hi everyone,

My name is Joel and cancer runs in my family. My grandpa succumbed to prostate cancer in his early 70s, my 42 year old sister is a two-time breast cancer survivor and my aunt is currently living with ovarian cancer. Once my sis had been diagnosed with breast cancer I realized that I wanted to be involved in the search for new treatments.

Today, I work as a project leader for Pharmatech Oncology a company that manages oncology clinical trials. You can read more about our company at http://www.pharmatechoncology.com.

Currently, I am managing a clinical trial for patients with Advanced Lung Cancer. You can see more details about the trial at http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00766246.

The main purpose of the trial is to determine if adding Avastin (bevacizumab) to first-line, maintanance and second-line treatment in patients with advanced lung cancer will help improve patient outcomes. Patients receive the standard-of-care treatment along with Avastin which is provided by the study funder.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with lung cancer please spread the word that this trial is available. Pharmatech Oncology is utilizing the Just-In-Time approach for enrolling patients. This means that there may already be an oncologist near you who is able to open this clinical trial. Pharmatech is also able to work with oncologists who may not know about this trial. As a patient, you should feel free to approach your doctor and talk about clinical trials. You have the power to spread the word and participate in important research. Clinical trials are the best chance we have to test new treatments and regimens. Of course, nobody can promise successful outcomes on a clinical trial; however, we must test new treatments as we work our way to a cure.

I hope to receive some feedback from others out there. I am interested in talking to others on how to get the word out about this trial. I'd love to hear from patients, doctors, nurses and anyone else who has participated or is considering participating in a cancer clinical trial.

Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you!

Joel
