Tell us about your experience with/connection to Cancer

“Thyroid cancer reached my vocal chords, ears, and lungs. The surgery for the neck dissection was 4-6-07. And then I had radiation in late September. I will be going in for another radiation treatment 7-21-08.”

    We had never heard of Crohn's either, before he got it when he was 15! And it's supposed to be hereditary, but nobody in either side of our family has ever had it that we know of. Symptoms are constant diarrhea, weight loss, and abdominal pain.

    My son (17) has Crohn's Disease (it's a gastrointestinal illness that has no cure) so I can sympathize with you having to sit away from everyone after your radiation. DJ was very susceptible to any germs with the medicine he is on, it lowers your immune system. Any time he would catch a bug, he would get sick worse than anyone else. He probably missed 2 days a week of school, but they let him make up his work and tests, and he graduated on time! He's on a different drug now and is feeling lots better. Of course it's summer too and he can sleep in as long as he wants, that helps!
